DO: Wear Layers!! Layers add dimension and depth to your images. If it’s hot outside layer with accessories – cute belts, necklaces, bracelets, suspenders, ties/bowties, etc. If it’s cool weather cardigans and hats are great examples.
DO: Purchase clothes that fit your bodies. It can be tempting to buy kids clothing a size bigger so they’ll have room to grow, but for photosessions it’s not the best idea. Avoid looking sloppy by wearing well fitting garments.
DO: Make sure everyone is happy and comfortable as much as possible. While we want to avoid athletic wear, we do want to be able to breathe and move easily. If you feel good in your clothes you will look relaxed and photograph better. Also, everything doesn’t have to be new, shop your closet.
DON’T: Wear neon colors. They don’t photograph well and cast colors onto the skin of those who are wearing them. No one wants a bright yellow face!
DON’T: Over Match! Coordinating clothing comes together so much better. Outfits should compliment each other, but not everyone completely match each other.
DON’T: FORGET SHOES! Actually DO, barefoot is always a great choice for the beach. However, if you choose to wear shoes make sure the choices make sense and don’t distract from your outfits and background.
The beach is one of my very favorite places to photograph families. We are so lucky to have so many great options nearby. If you are ready to start planning your family beach session, shoot me a message and let’s chat!
