Christmas Jammie Sessions may not be for everyone, except maybe they are for everyone! 🙂 Every mom deserves one sweet session to look back on of their kids in adorable Christmas PJs. Christmas jammies have become so much a part of the season. Is it silly? Maybe! Does that make it any less sweet and worth remembering? Not at all!
But how do you make sure that you choose the right jammies when there are 86,746 choices this time of year? How do you pull it all together for a photoshoot so it doesn’t look like you just pulled the kids out of bed, bed head and all? I am sharing a few tips for styling the perfect Christmas Jammie session. I hope you find this helpful! Need more help? 4 Tips for Styling a Christmas Jammies Sessions:
1. Play off the scene or background– Once you know the location, theme, and/or props use this to help you decide on a style or colors. For example, if there is going to be a lot of green maybe choose jammies with a lighter cream or white base. If the set up is mainly white and red, green jammies might be best. Consider patterns that give the feel of the theme as well.
2. Don’t be too matchy– For 2 kids, identical matching jammies will work. However, for 3 or more people I suggest putting at least one person in a pair of PJs that coordinates with the others without being completely matching. This will add variety to your photo which is visually pleasing. It will also help you to avoid too much of a single pattern which can be distracting.
3. Make sure the fit is right– If you’re anything like me you buy kids pajamas about 4 sizes too big. Especially, the holiday ones that get worn for about a month each year. My advice here is don’t do this when choosing Pjs for a Christmas Jammies Session. Some pajamas are supposed to fit more tightly fitted and others are supposed to be a bit oversized or flowy. Clothing always looks better in pictures when the fit is right.
4. Don’t forget accessories– Bare feet is always a good choice for Pjs sessions, and usually a bit easier. However, if you want to include shoes it can definitely be done and even add to the look. Be sure to choose shoes that go with the theme and chosen pajamas. Other accessories can really complete the overall look, keeping true to a Christmas Jammies Session feel but also looking put together. Consider adding cardigans, hats, scarves, socks, etc. which can also be removed for some of the photos giving more variety.
Bonus Tip: Get in the photos! This is important, I promise. If you only jump in for a quick one at the end, you will still look back and love it. 🙂
