Fall is a crazy popular time for family photos. Especially here in Florida, as we slowly start to get a break from the blazing heat. 🤞🏻 The fun part about fall sessions in Tampa Bay is that, because of our weather, you can go with so many different styles. We aren’t bound by the cold weather and confined to winter clothing. You can make this session whatever you’d like. Here are some tips to keep in mind when styling your Fall family session. 🍂
1. Use Light Layers
As everyone knows our fall weather can be all over the place. I can leave one day of minis drenched in sweat (if you’ve seen it, its not pretty!) and need a sweatshirt the next. It can definitely make choosing outfits for your session a challenge. I always encourage layers because they give such a fall feel, but are easy to loose in the heat. Keeping them on the lighter side can really help with comfort. This might mean a t-shirt with an open button down on top, a puffer or sweater vest, or even just adding suspenders for the boys. For girls a thin long sleeve or short sleeve t-shirt under a corduroy or other overall type dress or adding a cardigan, hair bow, or knee high socks. For Moms think jewelry, hats, cardigans, and more!
2. Fall Colors are So Fun!
Fall colors are fun, photograph beautifully, and bring a little pop of the season that we don’t get much of in our trees! Maroon, Burnt Orange (Go Hokies… If you know, you know!), teal, mustard, and rust all work great and combine well together. These work not only with each other but also against a green/brown background. Of course neutrals are always a winner too if you aren’t sure which way to go.
3. Textures are a Win
Adding different textures and/or flowy items can really elevate the look. A chunky knit, flowy dress/skirt, or denim jacket can add the perfect element of texture. Put them into a pretty wooded scene and you have a beautiful set up for a breezy fall feel.
4. Trust your Photographer!
I have done this long enough to know its a balance between what everyone is comfortable in and what will look great!
