If you’re a senior (or the parent of one) feeling a little nervous about senior photos, you’re not alone. Almost every senior I photograph tells me the same thing before we start:
“I’m awkward in front of the camera.”
And every time, I smile—because that feeling never lasts long.
Today I’m sharing what actually happens during a senior session, using a recent session with the sweetest young lady who was a natural beauty with an effortless, laid-back style. From downtown Dunedin to a glowing beach sunset, this session was the perfect example of how relaxed, fun, and confidence-building senior photos can be.
We began this session in downtown Dunedin, which is one of my favorite spots for seniors. It’s relaxed, colorful, and full of little nooks that don’t feel stiff or overly posed.
She started in a simple white shirt and jeans, which was so perfectly her. Nothing overdone—just clean, classic, and comfortable. Starting in a casual outfit helps seniors ease in, move naturally, and forget they’re being photographed.
This part of the session is all about:
I guide everything—where to stand, what to do with your hands, when to move—so there’s never that “What am I supposed to do?” feeling.
One of the biggest fears seniors have is looking stiff or fake. That’s why I focus on natural movement and connection, not forced smiles.
During this session, we walked, leaned, laughed, twirled hair, and took little breaks to reset. The goal isn’t perfection—it’s authentic confidence. And once seniors realize they don’t have to perform, everything changes.
After downtown Dunedin, we headed to the beach for sunset, which always feels like a deep exhale. The light softens, the pace slows, and everything feels a little magical.
She changed into an adorable dress—something more dressy and perfect for a beach sunset. This outfit gave the session a different feel while still staying true to who she is.
The beach portion is often where seniors feel the most confident:
We let the sunset guide us, capturing those quiet, glowing moments that feel timeless.
Senior sessions usually end with seniors feeling:
And parents love seeing their child exactly as they are in this moment—on the edge of everything new.
This session was such a reminder that senior photos don’t have to be stressful or overthought. When you choose outfits that feel like you, locations that feel comfortable, and a photographer who guides you every step of the way, the experience becomes something really special.
You don’t need to know how to pose.
You don’t need to be “photogenic.”
You just need to show up as yourself.
I’ll take care of the rest 🤍 Reach out to get started!
