Photographing these years be”tween” toddler or little kid and teen have been a learning experience for me. Heck, parenting them has been too! I don’t think we give enough credit to this very particular age. They aren’t babies but they surely aren’t teens, and yet they are developing so much of who they really are!
I thank God for my years of working with Middle Schoolers, I think it has helped me to understand where my kids are headed. It also helps me to relate to and talk to kids this age while photographing them. This usually means they are more relaxed and we can capture a more authentic version of themselves.
My baby girl is 10 and I really don’t know where the time has gone. Watching her grow is so bittersweet. I wish I could freeze a little bit of her at every age. I’m always so excited to see what the next age will bring and every year is somehow just as beautiful as the last.
She is so crazy and fun, and never embarrassed by her Momma. In fact, I think she works hard at being just silly enough to embarrass me out in public. Her laugh is contagious so even when she is being completely over the top you can’t help but join in her fun! But don’t let her goofy outward personality fool you. She is mature in ways few her age can match. She sees people for their intentions and not their flaws. She forgives quickly and loves deeply. In many ways she is everything I hope to be when I grow up!
She is a supportive little sister and a tender big sister. She is a most helpful daughter and a caring granddaughter. She is a connected niece and a loyal friend. More than anything she is a blessing to our family! My relationship with her as my only daughter is special in a way I can’t even describe. I love her beyond words!
The world is at your fingertips baby girl. I can’t wait to see you take it by storm.
XOXO, your Momma
